Cinematic Arts Ph.D. student in Film Studies Thomas Jackson’s essay “Tracing a Lineage: Alain Resnais’s Painting Films and the Animated Aesthetic” has just appeared in the latest issue of Film Criticism (Volume 44: Issue 1, 2020).  

In his innovative article, Tom establishes aesthetic and conceptual connections between the prominent French filmmaker’s early painting films and his later, better-known features through the lens of animation theory.
