Congratulations to Hao Zhou on his Gold Medal from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the 2021 Student Academy Awards. "Frozen Out", Hao's short film, was one among many submissions in the Alternative/Experimental category.

Only 17 students were voted winners at the 48th Student Academy Awards this year. The Student Academy Awards were created in 1972 to celebrate and promote emerging global talent.

The Gold Medal for "Frozen Out" is the first award given to a student artist based in Iowa, and a first- time honor for the University of Iowa.
