Symposium: Shadow Play Across the Arts and Humanities

Symposium: Shadow Play Across the Arts and Humanities promotional image

Shadow Play Across the Arts and Humanities is an interdisciplinary symposium weaving creative and critical perspectives across a series of flash presentations. Shadow performance is an inherently interdisciplinary phenomenon that takes on distinct forms in different artistic mediums and contexts—in the cinema of the silhouette, in video poems, in children’s show, and as global form of political critique. The symposium is followed by an interactive exhibition presenting shadow in its various expressions offering the tools of shadow puppetry for exploration. This event coincides with the Hancher residence of Manual Cinema, an artist collective specializing in live cinema and shadow play, who will perform their latest work The 4th Witch at the Englert Theater on April 17th.
