The Dewey Stuit Fund for Undergraduate Research promotes the development of mentoring between CLAS undergraduate students and faculty. Screenwriting Arts student Danny Willis has been awarded from the fund to support her ongoing work on a script called NORTHSIDE.

Here's a synopsis: Cariña, a trans teen rejected by their mother, finds community in NORTHSIDE, a gayborhood wedged in the center of political drama. Through vignettes of this neighborhood's residents, NORTHSIDE explores topics of transmisogyny, DIY HRT trading, gentrification, and the dying legacy of elder Queers.

"Danny has been working on this project for 2+ years, and I've watched it evolve from a highly conceptual play into a finely woven, multi-narrative feature script exploring queer and trans stories and community" claims Assistant Professor Rachel Yoder.

The Department of Cinematic Arts is so incredibly proud of Danny and all of her outstanding work she has put into this project. We can't wait to see what the future holds for such a remarkable student!
